Karelian ethnic music
The unique archive of 12 thousand recordings gained from fieldwork in Karelian distant areas since 1969 is mainly used for students and teachers' scientific research as well as the ethnic music programs' development to be performed by the Academy's Folk Band.
A majority of these recordings are not digitized, transcribed and published. The project aims to preserve the Karelian ethnic music recordings, provide public access to music heritage and find the ways for its creative development.
Permission to listen to or use any of the recording is determined on a case by case basis. To get more info please contact the director of the Institute for Studies in Ethnic Music Mrs. Svetlana Kosyreva
