The birthday of Alexander Glazunov!

For the Petrozavodsk State Glazunov Conservatoire this date in the calendar is very special. August 10 (July 29 according to the old style) 1865 was born a man whose name our conservatoire proudly bears and whose creative genius has defined the paths of Russian music development for decades to come.

Glazunov dedicated nearly thirty years of his life to the Saint Petersburg (Petrograd, Leningrad) Conservatory moving from professor to its director.

He was not merely an administrator but a true guardian of traditions and soul of student life. Dedication to the profession, sensitivity to young talents and the highest level of mastery are values that we cherish today and pass on to new generations of musicians in our conservatoire.

On the eve of the new academic year we celebrate the Composer’s birthday in anticipation of the main creative event of 2026. From November 30 to December 6, the Petrozavodsk Conservatoire will host the 6th International Alexander Glazunov Youth Music Competition! This large-scale contest will bring together young performers from all over the world to honor the memory of the Master through live performance. The competition will be a great opportunity to make oneself known, gain invaluable experience of stage performance and evaluation by a highly professional jury.
