On May 21–22, a delegation from Shanghai Normal University headed by vice-rector Yang Haiyan visited the Petrozavodsk State Glazunov Conservatoire. The delegation included Wei Feng, director of management and development at the University, Shi Zhong, professor and previous rector of the Institute of Music, Wang Hongying, сhair of the Women's Federation, and Liu Yun, professor of the Institute of Music.
A framework cooperation agreement between the two universities was signed in 2009. Partners are implementing a joint project to prepare graduates of Shanghai Normal University for admission to the Petrozavodsk Conservatoire.
Over the years of cooperation, more than 80 students from China having completed the preparatory course have graduated from the Conservatoire's Master's degree and Postgraduate Performance programs. Many of them are successfully working at leading art universities and concert organizations in the People's Republic of China.
The purpose of the delegation's visit was to discuss further expansion of cooperation in the field of higher education and academic and creative exchange. During the talks, an agreement was reached for conservatory faculty to conduct master classes at the Institute of Music of Shanghai Normal University.
The delegation attended a concert by Chinese students and met with students graduated from Shanghai Normal University. The guests highly praised the performance of the concert participants, including Lyu Linxin, Xu Enсi, Yang Juan, Gu Weijia, Zhang Xiaoyu, and Guo Xiaotian.
During the conversation with Chinese students, Professor Shi Zhong emphasized the importance and relevance of studying Russian amid the development of good-neighborly relations and partnerships in various fields between Russia and China. He noted the advantages of studying under the Russian postgraduate performance program for students from China.
As part of the cultural program, the delegation visited the Kantele House and the Sheltozero Veps Ethnographic Museum.
