On December 1st the Petrozavodsk Conservatoire opened the anniversary 5th International Musical Art Competition named after Alexander Glazunov.
In the coming days more than 1000 participants from 32 cities of the Russian Federation, from the People's Republic of China and Switzerland, the Republic of Belarus and Karelia, from Bashkortostan and Tatarstan are arriving in Petrozavodsk.
The Competition is conducted in the following sections: piano, strings, folk instruments, woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments, vocal arts, choral and orchestral performance.
The Competition aims to reveal and support the most talented, promising young performers in different regions of Russia, the CIS and foreign countries, to contribute to development and popularization of the musical culture of Russia, as well as of the classical music of the world, to share best practices in the field of music education and performing arts; to promote a unique brand of the Petrozavodsk State Glazunov Conservatoire in the international educational market.
The opening ceremony of the Competition took place at the Concert Hall of the Petrozavodsk Conservatoire. The rector of the Conservatoire professor Aleksei Kubyshkin delivered a welcoming speech. He noted that the competition opens a series of significant events dedicated to the upcoming 160th anniversary of the birth of the Russian composer, conductor and teacher Alexander Glazunov in 2025.
In the year of the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin the Petrozavodsk Conservatoire presented the guests and participants of the competition with a performance of the Alexander Glazunov’s Solemn Cantata. It was created for the 100th anniversary of the Russian poet and based on poems by Grand Duke Konstantin Romanov.
The cantata was performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the Petrozavodsk Conservatory (artistic director and conductor - Aleksei Kubyshkin), the Academic Choir of Students of the Petrozavodsk Conservatory (artistic director - Evgeny Guryev) and soloists Maria Belokurskaya (mezzo-soprano) and Yuri Bogdanov (tenor).
